Since 1992, South Pasadena’s preservation ordinance has been an effective tool for implementing the City’s historic preservation efforts. However, the current ordinance does not address current preservation issues. The City of South Pasadena sent a Request for Proposals to qualified consulting firms to update the City’s historic preservation ordinance. Historic Resources Group (HRG) revised the document, which will ultimately serve as the legal framework needed to assure continued protection of the City’s historic character. South Pasadena is a Certified Local Government (CLG), and this project was funded, in part, with a CLG Grant. Although the current one is effective for planning purposes, several deficiencies needed to be considered.
The Cultural Heritage Commission will now review, discuss, and make edits to each section of the draft ordinance as part of it’s regularly scheduled meetings in the coming months. The meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at 6:45 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. |
