LIBRARY FITNESS COLLECTION SPRINGS INTO ACTION
Americans have increasingly become sedentary with the proliferation of computers, television, automobiles, and other technologies. The alarming drop in physical fitness threatens the well-being of countless individuals and families --and society as a whole. In response the South Pasadena Public Library has unveiled its ‘Fitness for Life’ Collection’. The Library is doing so to provide better resources to help locals become and remain more fit. Studies show that people who are physically active are happier, healthier, and suffer fewer illnesses.
The ‘Fitness for Life’ Collection is a new assortment of books and DVDs on sports, exercise, and fitness for young and old alike. Using funding from the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library and the Rotary Club of South Pasadena, the Library has purchased more than 200 up-to-date titles on baseball, basketball, bicycling, football, golf, martial arts, soccer, softball, tee ball, strength training, tennis, and many other sports. The collection also contains an invigorating selection of titles on walking, running, swimming, yoga, and pilates. Outdoor activities like camping, hunting, fishing, skateboarding, and surfing are covered too. There’s also a broad array of titles on nutrition, weight loss, and self-coaching. For the first six months or so all of the items will be housed in a special bin by the New Books display. A ‘Fitness for Life’ brochure is available in the special bin and via the link below. All of the ‘Fitness for Life’ materials check out for 3 weeks each and any of them can be placed on hold.
