Rotary Purchases 20 New ‘Golden State’ Titles for the Library
The South Pasadena Rotary Club and the South Pasadena Public Library have expanded “The Golden State Collection” again. The project is a partnership to improve the Library’s collection of checkout books on California-related subjects. The collection consists of a broad assortment of titles for all ages on California history, travel, geography, nature, food, fashion, gardening, sports and much more.
Many of the Golden State Collection selections are on display in the Library in the unit across from the Reference Desk. Please see attached document for a list of the latest 20 entertaining and informative titles on a wide range of California topics. They were recently purchased from Heyday Books of Berkeley, perhaps the most important independent publisher of California books. New titles include A Guide to the Sequoia Groves of California, Under the Dragon, California’s New Culture, and Above All: Mount Whitney and California’s Highest Peaks. Each title can be checked out for 3 weeks, just like almost all other library materials.
The Rotary Club’s lunch meetings are usually held in the South Pasadena Oneonta Church Tower Room on Tuesdays at noon. After each week’s meeting the guest speaker selects a Golden State Collection title and signs its custom bookplate featuring the Rotary logo and motto, “Service above self”. Each book is then donated to the Library in his or her honor. |
