The Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library and the South Pasadena Public Library will present a free film showing of "Driven By the Sound: Independent Musicians and Their Roads Less Traveled" on Thursday, December 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room. South Pasadena filmmakers Kenny and Jake Ballantine will to introduce their film and discuss it with the audience. The stars of the movie, Jake Ballentine and Jeremy Adamiak, will be on hand to play some of their songs live. Each audience member is asked to bring at least 1 unopened can of food as admission, although no one will be turned away for not having a can. All cans of food collected will be donated to a local food bank to help feed the poor during the holidays.
The film tells the story of Jake and Jeremy who sell their music on iTunes and get gigs in small clubs. Nevertheless, neither of them has been able to claim music as their full time job. In "Driven by the Sound" the two singer-songwriters hit the road with no money, food, or gas, determined to rely solely on whatever they could earn playing music along the way. Their goal was to play their way from San Diego to San Francisco. Ultimately achieving this would require sleeping on the streets, surviving on peanut butter sandwiches, and literally singing until it hurt. While on their musical adventure they also sought out and interviewed other indie musicians and industry pros who helped to explain how and why the road to a career in music is rapidly changing.
The Library Community Room is located at 1115 El Centro Street. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and refreshments will be served. No tickets or reservations are necessary. |
