After 9-11 Pat Tillman left behind a multi-million dollar NFL contract to enlist in the military. On April 22, 2004, Tillman was killed while serving in Afghanistan. He died, the military said, while charging up a hill toward the enemy to protect his fellow Army Rangers. But that wasn’t the true story. Shockingly, Tillman was killed by his own men. What’s more, the military knew that fact within hours but waited five weeks before admitting it. Four years and several investigations later, including two by Congress, Pat Tillman’s family, led by his mother Mary, are still searching for the answers about what really happened. Mary Tillman has recently published a bestselling book on her four-year ordeal to cut through the misleading official accounts. The story has been featured on 60 Minutes.
On Monday, September 22 at 7:00 p.m., The South Pasadena Public Library and The Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library will host an Author Night with a book signing with Mary Tillman centered on her book, Boots on the Ground by Dusk: My Tribute to Pat Tillman. The free event will be held in the South Pasadena Public Library Community Room at 1115 El Centro Street. Books will be available for purchase and no tickets or reservations are necessary.
Mary Tillman and journalist Narda Zacchino collaborated for the compelling tale of a mother's undying quest for the truth. Pat Tillman constantly defied expectations. After 9-11, he shocked his family and football fans everywhere when he left an All Pro career in the NFL and joined the Army Rangers.
The show will open with a set of graceful jazz from accomplished pianist Vic Buxton, a South Pasadena resident. |
