A Report Card Worth Sharing

by Steve Fjeldsted, City Librarian

Researching Your South Pasadena House” Guide Available at the South Pasadena Library

The South Pasadena Public Library is pleased to announce that the new research guide, Researching Your South Pasadena House (Call number 979.493 SHEA), is now available for patron use and can be checked out for the standard 3 week loan period.  Two copies of the guide will also be kept at the reference desk: one for in-library use and the other for those wishing to photocopy the entire guide or individual pages.  The 20- page guide, created by reference librarian Mike Shea as a part of an information feasibility study sponsored by Amigos Library Services, provides helpful tips on the types of information patrons will need to discover information about the history of their house, including previous owners and occupants, the year the house was built, and the names of the architects or contractors.  The guide also includes contact information for the places home researchers will need to visit to retrieve this information, including the South Pasadena Planning and Building Department and the Los Angeles County Assessor’s Office.  The guide even provides worksheets to help keep track of resources and agencies that patrons have visited and checked during their research.

Amigos Library Services, one of the nation’s largest resource-sharing networks and a leader in providing information technology to libraries, provides funding for librarians and information professionals annually to encourage professional development through the Amigos Fellowship Program.
